Drift Garage Tears Up Kallang II

Attended the Drift Garage/MPT carnival event on Sunday and there were the usual suspects ...

A cool F1 driving simulator by Bridgestone, which I didn't try for fear of revealing how bad a wheelman I am..


Its always fun attending grass-roots style events, catching up with fellow enthusiasts with our JDM machines parked all around. I could think of worse ways to spend a Sunday afternoon than this!

Drift Garage Tears Up Kallang

Ever wanted to know more about drifting in Singapore? Can't get enough of the drift action at Formula Drift in July? Want to get to know the who's who in Singapore's drifting scene? Drift Garage (DG) will be holding a members' meet there so the public and new members alike can mingle, get membership upgrades, place orders for Drift Garage merchandise like T-shirts and bumper stickers or just mingle with their drift cars.

Get practical advice from our senior DG members on how to get started in drifting or just get up to date with the drift scene, and be in tuned with the latest news and events coming up this year.



Don't forget the camera too because there will be some real drift action by some of our best drifters. The now famous Dninja S15 Silvia (as featured in Hotstuff, Hypertune and Xtreme etc) will be there too. This will be the ultimate photo opportunity or just ask for an autograph! Want a ride in Dninja S15? Are you feeling lucky?



Upcoming Hotstuff feature car the "Dream Factory" gold WRX driven by DG member KYO who will also be doing a demo on that day. See a WRX drift in Singapore for the first time!

Initial D fans will be delighted as Takahashi Keisuke's FD3S driven by and Akiyama Wataru's AE86 Levin and God's Hand S2000, God's Leg R34 and possibly even the AE86 Trueno driven by Fujiwara Takumi will be out in force!



This Sunday will also be the biggest turn out of S13/200SXs in Singapore. Thinking of buying a Silvia? Stick around and see if there is one you like. Make an offer and who knows, you can be drifting with DG on their very next drift day!

When you are there, look out for the senior members in white colour DG T-shirts and identify yourself. Alternatively, you can look out for the DG banner that will be prominently displayed near the gathering area.

This Sunday, hang out with the cars and stars at Kallang with DRIFT GARAGE, the one and only Singapore forum for drift enthusiasts, by drift enthusiasts.

Orido and Nob's One-Two Z4 Punch in MME 2009

Starting at 1130am on 8 August 2009, Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race 2009, the tenth edition of Malaysia's premier 12 hour endurance race saw 46 entrants. 15 in the Open Class, 10 in Class A1 and 19 in Class A2.

Production supercars goes into A1 whereas production sports and saloon cars falls into A2.

17 cars did not finish the race with the last finishing car completing only 140 laps. This will serve as a point of reference as you digest the winning teams' laps completion shortly.

The twin Z4s fielded by Team Petronas Syntium dominated the Open Class. No.28 piloted by the trio of Manabu Orido, Tatsuya Kataoka and Johan Adzmi overtook their team mates Nobuteru Taniguchi, M. Yanagida and F. Hairuman with less than 20 minutes remaining to snatch the championship. The second-placed No.15 car suffered a stroke of bad luck with a puncture late in the race.

Both Z4s did 305 laps, with Orido's car completing the race in 11:55:31.416 and Nob's car less than a minute behind at 11:56:21.028.


In third place with 300 laps was last year’s champion team Porsche Club Singapore (No. 11) Mok Weng Sun, Darryl Hayden O'Young and Craig George Baird who made a big comeback after starting the race from the last spot on the starting grid. The 911 GT3 also posted the second fastest timing of the day with a smoking 2:08.239 lap.

Class A1 was won by Team Fugazi Racing, with their distinctive No.9 Radical SR8 machine driven by Alex Yoong, Wira Dani and Faizal Zelman. The US-made race car had a minor drama in the final 30 minutes with the starter not firing up, forcing the team to pit in for about eight minutes for a replacement starter. The team completed a total of 284 laps with a best time of 2:11.151 and were one lap ahead of the second placed J’s Racing Labs Honda S2000.

The Drift King was there piloting the No.64 S2000, adding to the delight of JDM fans. Together with teammates, J.Umemoto and H.Kubota, Keiichi Tsuchiya completed 277 laps and had a best time of 2:27.263, which is a good 16 seconds down on the Radical’s best lap. The Honda roadster is a fantastic machine but isn't enough to beat the barely road legal Nürburgring record holder of 6 minutes 55 seconds that is the SR8. One must also wonder why the S2000 is classified as Class A1 in the 'production supercar' category...

And finally in class A2 winner is Team Type R Racing's Integra DC5 No.21 driven by Wong Yew Choong, Soh Kee Koon and Lai Wee Sing, finishing the race with 278 laps under their belt and a best time of 2:27.941.

So once again, NA cars dominated endurance racing (at least in our local scene) and the time to beat for Sepang-crazy S2000 and DC5 Singaporean/Malaysian drivers are at the 2:27 mark!

I'll finish off with this candid shot of Keiichi horsing around at the end of the race while his kōhais (juniors) Nob and Orido posed behind dutifully for photo-taking!

GTR's Bukit Timah Abode

Following my post on the R35 being officially brought in by Tan Chong, our good friend David from Project Race Queen has recently taken these great shots from the GTR standalone showroom in Bukit Timah.

I had the opportunity to drive the car for a bit recently. All I can say is the acceleration is out-of-this world yet when you are driving normally, its (almost) as docile as an automatic Cefiro!

No further introduction needed on the already legendary car, just enjoy the pictures.

Capella, Cars and Comfort

Had a short getaway at Capella in Sentosa this weekend with my girlfriend. When we arrived at the basement carpark, we saw this mammoth and majestic Rolls Phantom and that set the tone for the rest of our experience at this exclusive hotel.

Capella is a 112 room 6-star resort-styled hotel including 4 historical colonial bungalows built in the 1880s to accommodate British officers.


After a quick and courteous check-in, a lovely lady walked us our room and gave us a run through, with highlights as follows:


Gorgeous view of three cascading swimming pools and the South China Sea.


Porcelain bath tub overseeing said view (albeit more restricted).


Touchscreen controls for launching nuclear missiles the lights, curtains, air conditioning, room service and probably tonnes of other useful functions.


HUGE vanity area. Great for the ladies!


Nespresso machine, iPod dock connected to Bose sound system. There's also a wall-mounted 46 inch LCD tv (you can see part of it lurking on top right hand corner of the picture) Great for me!


But what impressed me most is this handwritten note from the hotel's General Manager Micheal. I can't remember having ever received one from any other hotel.
