2 F1 World Champions, 1 Promo Video

The cynical side of me knows that there is about as much chance as a cold day in hell, that company-hired test drivers will speak badly of their test cars in a promo video.

But when you use two F1 world champions to endorse it (with Lewis saying "I'll take it!"), and perhaps more importantly, when the company in question is McLaren, the automotive gods that brought us the McLaren F1, then I prefer to believe that the MP4-12C is something truly special.

3.8-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 delivers 600bhp and 443lb ft of torque, in a car with a dry weight of only 1,300kg... Good lord... Drool over the rest of the specs here.

More of Ken Block and his legendary Gymkhana skills. This time he brings along skate-boarder Rob Dyrdek to pilot a kart that has been modeled after Block’s Subaru STI V.10. The video shows Dyrdek trying to keep up with Block in his kart. There’s not much show of skill as previous video’s but there’s an element in here that was not present in the past, humour, lots of it. Enjoy the video.

620 HP GTR prepped by Stillen

Stillen announced earlier that they have completed preparations of their GT-R, and are ready to race the 620 horsepower beast in Targa Newfoundland.






The Stillen R35 Nissan GT-R goes 0 - 100 km/hr in 2.9 seconds, hitting 210 km/hr at 11.4 seconds, on its way to a near 325 km/hr top speed. The car clocked an 11.0 second quartermile, crossing the line at 206 km/hr.




Amongst the refinements are new intake and exhaust systems, a new boost controller, and adjustable sway bars, springs, and endlinks. AP Racing carbon/ceramic brake pads and rotors were also installed. Status racing seats sit on custom frames, and the whole exterior is wrapped in carbon fiber.T

The 2,200 km (1,400 mile) Targa Nefoundland rally begins on September 12, and concludes one week later.

The Race Of A Lifetime At Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore Changi Airport is revving up for the Changi GP Festival in September. Airport visitors can look forward to a month of race-related activities starting with the Changi Airport Race – the first-ever jetliner versus car race in Asia. The race on 5 September 2009 will pitch a Porsche Carrera Cup race car against a Boeing 747 aircraft from Singapore carrier, Jett8 Airlines, to determine the speed king of the tarmac.

Two hundred grandstand tickets are up for grabs for fans who wish to hear and experience the race up close on the tarmac of Changi Airport. Members of the public who spend a minimum of $30 in a single receipt in the public areas of Terminals 1, 2 or 3 from 15 August to 23 August 2009 will qualify for a lucky draw to win a pair of tickets. Besides the grandstand tickets, another 500 tickets will be available for an exclusive live screening of the race at the public area of Terminal 3. Ticket holders will also be invited to enjoy the festivities at the airport on the race day.

I groan inwardly every time I attend wedding banquets and sit through yet another 'standard' wedding video. You know the type - photos of the newly-weds when they are babies, teenagers, young adults, dating, travels, goofy poses and then posed wedding shoots et al..

Speeding Without Sight

I posted a while back about a blind man driving and even donuts in a Mustang. Back then I only had the trailer. Here's the actual video.

Although part of their campaign for the new Mustang, its still a decent thing for the folks at Ford to do for a disabled enthusiast.

Life at 324 km/hr...

The F40 was the Ferrari that made me a fan of the marque, why you say? A Japanese guy did 324 km/hr in it in 1992 (!!) and filmed himself touching its top speed on an expressway only to be arrested after he sold a videotape to an undercover policeman.



By that time, he already sold ten thousand videos!

Progress according to Audi

A not-so-subtle jibe by Audi. Jason Statham trying to escape pursuit in a Mercedes and BMW which he crashes, followed by a Buick (?) which he look at in resignation. And finally, the new supercharged A6...

Disabled & Drifting

Lots of normal people can't even drive properly. For proof, see some of the idiotic driving during your morning commute on the freeway.



So for a disabled person to drift, it's a mind-blowing feat of awesomeness. A demonstration of the indomitable human spirit over adversity.



The three pictures above are taken by Dino Dalle at a drift event in Nikko, Japan and according to him, "Pulling on the lever will actuate the throttle while moving it forward will get the brakes to come on. He made it looks so easy out on track and was putting out more tire smoke than anyone else!"



Another example I know of in Japan. 2005 D1GP champion Kazama tried out the set up and attest its not easy at all!



The latest example is an email from Ford's PR saying that they just got a blind man onto the new Mustang and he was doing donuts!

This trailer might be a deliberate effort to tug at our heartstrings, but nonetheless, it was a decent thing to do for a car lover who lost his sight. Full video to be out soon.
