Blast From The Past: 944 Turbo

FR layout, 220 hp and near 50/50 weight distribution... Numbers that are still relevant today but pretty damn impressive over 20 years ago in 1986.

The 944 Turbo is also widely speculated to be the design inspiration behind the FC RX-7 and pretty much sets the performance format for 90s-era Japanese FR sportcars.

wasn't this the car which was slammed in Top Gear season.... can't remember. something before season 6. The one where they had arnd a 10k budget and they all bought variations of this 944 turbo. However, the reliability was crap.. apparently. Kudos to this owner who has painstakenly maintained the car over the years. =)

Top Gear hate Porsches, remember? Ferrari 355s are arguably unreliable but Jeremy Clarkson love it to bits :)

it was a 3000 quid budget and they all each bought a 924, base 944, and 928. True sports cars require a strict maintenance schedule due to their high performance nature. Parts for an old porsche are rare and therefore expensive. Those cars obviously were not cared for and that is why they were under 3000. If anything its impressive that they all bought porsche when the challenge was any sports coupe under that figure.
